I don't want you to come purely out of selfish reasons, you would be competition. However, you might like to try.
Listen to recent recording and see if you like the sounds and if you can make that sound.

A lot of US orchestras are doing full blind auditions now. Based on what I have read here I do not think this the case in the UK. But for lots of legal reasons and union rules there are quite a few blind auditions so they don't know if they are picking a man or woman, old or young. freind or foe. They just pick the best. On another note some orchestras require you are member of the local union before you audition so check that out before you fly over and get a waiver if needed from the union .
