Hi all,
A bit of unashamed advertising and information. This is part of a Review from the Birmingham Post.
"On a more modest level, but still displaying equally prodigious musicianship, Thursday afternoon’s concert from the Queens Park Sinfonia under the persuasive baton of Richard Laing brought no fewer than four concertos to the Adrian Boult Hall. The immense strain of accompanying so many different soloists, and in so many different styles of music, was spectacularly surmounted.
Outstanding in this long programme was Paul Patterson’s Phoenix Concerto for oboe and strings – immediately approachable, eminently programmable, and cultivating collaboration of ensemble instead of soloistic starriness, although Emily Pailthorpe, dedicatee and soloist in this premiere, gave a brilliant account of her line.
Patterson’s writing is eloquent and arresting, the strings in the outer movements busy in a typically “English” way, in the sultry central movement providing a swaying, almost erotic accompaniment to the oboe’s sensuous writhings.
With little preparation time, this scintillating performance provided exhilarating evidence of the expertise of these young orchestral musicians, most of them Birmingham Conservatoire alumni, and the ability of Richard Laing to work efficiently and clearly. And they had another concert coming up at teatime."
So, if anyone requires the services of a really versatile orchestra please see their website
