We collected most of this order today. The rims which were not ready to be collected will be back from the platers by Tuesday 18 June. I will collect the remainder of the order then, on Tuesday 18 June 2013.

The black plastic rims were not made yet and the new Alex 8 and M-18 rims will be made before Tuesday 18 June 2013.

Mike Bosley has the PHC cups and rims collected today and will be putting them on"Horn Mart" on eBay and @ Mike Bosley mikebosley@hotmail.co.uk .

You can contact Mike Bosley @ mikebosley@hotmail.co.uk . Please put "PHC Order" in the title of your email. Or "22A for Tim/Tina Aardvark" if that is indeed your name. It all helps speed up our response to you.

Thanks, TC :)

The Alex 8, is that a one piece or a threaded cup?
Standard or E shank?

I hope these aren't stupid questions!

The 'Alex 8 style' rim is a rim for horn players who like the feel of the 'Alex 8 shape' of a rim which you can use with all PHC cups, whether E Taper or Standard Taper. The 'Alex 8 style' rims will also fit PHC's Stainless Steel cups (whether E Taper or Standard Taper).

There is only one fixed rim PHC Mouthpiece, the PHC "First" which is already on PHC's online eBay shop

I think there's a strong possibility that it will be a specific copy of an Alexander #8 rim with just enough slight variation to ensure that it doesn't breach any copyright or patent laws. ;)

Come to think of it, is it actually feasible or possible to take out a Patent on a mouthpiece? :?:

Osmun in the USA got fed up with waiting for the always late orders from the PHC factory we have had to use for several years. Osmun's solution was to make and market copies of PHC which they called their "London Series".

There was no point in making a fuss. They wouldn't have had to do it if our factory had been capable of meeting any delivery dates, ever.

In the early 70s PHC were sued by Neil Sanders who thought that we were infringing his expensive patent. His design was a one-piece mouthpiece with a medium/shallow cup and a wide rim which sloped in from the outer edge to the point where the rim meets the cup.

We had to spend £300 preparing working drawings for the court case which Neil Sanders lost. They were both mouthpieces with a wider than normal rim, a mouthpiece cup and a hole at the bottom of the cup leading to the mouthpipe. As Dennis Wick discovered when JP from our factory wanted to sue him, mouthpieces are all very similar in principle. They all perform a similar task and when you look at a tray of 100 mouthpieces both ancient and modern you can find points of similarity between virtually all of them.

I don't imagine that Alex will feel threatened by a small company like ours selling a few 'Alex 8 Style' rims.

:D :) ;) :( :o  :? 8-) :x :P     :!: :?:   :| :ugeek: :geek:

I have no idea what the specs are for an Alex 8 rim. Will it fit between the AS and AN rims or is the internal diameter different?
