Hi everyone,

To all here who are don't play the horn as their main source of income.

Is horn playing in particular, and music making in general, incompatible with earning a living with a job that requires shift work?
I am very fortunate in having a local orchestra to play in that is very sympathetic to the fact that I work shifts (equal numbers of mornings, afternoons and nights seven days a week) and because of that can normally only attend about half of the rehearsals. My employer is entirely neutral to my hobby (and passion for horn playing) but is flexible enough to allow me to take individual leave days off so long as there is cover available.

Is there anyone else in the same situation? Do you book your leave and compensation days around concert comitments?
I'd be interested to hear if there are others on here who have to do the same juggling act of horn playing, a full time job and a second almost full time job too!

Cheers,

Bill

PS A special 'seasons greetings' to everyone who, like me, will be working the night shift all through christmas :)
