There's someone selling an Alex 103 on the IHS website - just appeared recently. Apparently it has "a nice warm sound".

Here it is: http://tinyurl.com/bqllfop

I was thinking whether this can possibly be the same model horn that I was sitting downwind of the other day during a rehearsal of Beethoven 7. Yes - the Alex was on first horn and I was playing second. He was giving it some welly on the high stuff and the sound was somewhat reminiscent of tearing silk - or let's just say it was projecting well. It was certainly quite hard for me to concentrate.

Has this guy (I assume it's a guy - don't know why) actually got a 103 to sell, or is the ad a scam?

Tearing silk. I prefer tearing canvas!
