Has anyone else heard that a leading London symphony orchestra is losing one of its principal horns to another symphony orchestra in London which does not have London in its title? ;)

Well now, this thread has been 'dead' for about a month, strangely enough! :o
Any more news about horn playing musical chairs :?:

Philharmonia need a 1st horn. LPO need a co-principal horn. The ROH needs a principal horn. RPO sorted. LSO has a full section at the moment. BBCSO sorted. ENO need a 3rd/co-principal. No real news, only guesses at present.

Wow... serious stuff!
Who is the LPO principal horn?
And, is Mr Rayner leaving the ROH? If so, where is he going?

Richard Bissill is the Principal Horn of the LPO and all round good egg. Nick Busch retired as the other of two principal horns so it is his job which the LPO need to fill.

Simon Rayner is still Principal Horn at the ROH but they also have two principals so they need to fill the vacancy left by Richard Clews.

The BBCSO has a principal and co-principal but most London orchestras have two equal principals.

:ugeek:

Thanks for the update info, TonyC. :)
Astonishing that the ROH Orchestra haven't given the other Principal job to Roger Montgomery ( I just heard that he has been elected Chairman of the British Horn Society).

Is Nigel Black still Principal? IMHO the "best" 1st Horn in London, or has he left? Or
are they looking for a joint principal?

So Richard B went to the ROH. The LPO have a new 3rd horn (Mark Vines) and need a second Principal Horn? The RPO need a second Pricipal Horn, as does the Philharmonia. The LSO needs a 3rd horn, as does ENO. Any others?
