The 2010 British Horn Festival will be taking place over the weekend of 30/31 October at the Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools’ Performing Arts Centre in Edinburgh and we hope you will visit the PHC stand.

We will have the all new stainless steel cups, still with a screw-thread to fit all PHC rims, for you to try. These are a first and we are looking forward to your feedback. Stainless steel mouthpieces for trombone and tuba are tried and tested in the USA with some excellent feedback from professionals but those are all one-piece mouthpieces so they have to like the fixed stainless steel rims for the concept to work unlike PHC's screw-thread, two-piece mouthpieces.

PHC's new titanium cups will also be available to try and, again, we are looking forward to your feedback.

The PHC 'First' one-piece mouthpieces will also be available to try and we hope to be able to talk to horn teachers about these mouthpieces as we are making these available as a special promotion. Visit us and be pleasantly surprised.

As well as stainless PHC cups we will have stainless steel PHC rims, both polished and unpolished, for you to try. These have been tried and tested and the results have been very encouraging.

Have a great horn weekend everybody.

This is very very boring. They play Alexanders in Scotland don't they?

yes but only the RSNO is a complete Alexander section, including (as pointed out by another member recently) a vacant chair that somehow plays an Alexander.
But elsewhere, casually browsing hornplayernet, one finds the following intruders into Alex sections:
BBCSSO: Schmid
Scottish Chanber Orch: Holton
Scottish Opera: Kruspe
Scottish Sinfonia: Schmid and Holton
:geek:

We now have the full range of PHC rims in three plastic finishes which are:

1) White acetal. This is still the standard PHC plastic/acetal rim and is hypoallergenic.

2) Black acetal which has a different 'feel' and was PHC's default plastic rim for many years. The black acetal rims are also hypoallergenic. There are several excellent horn players and teachers working away out there who have asked for these to be reintroduced so that's what we have done.

3) Crystalite, which is a transparent plastic. These have a smoother feel and are more like a gold plated rim in feel except that they are plastic and hypoallergenic. They also look very fine.

All of these rims will be on the PHC stand in Edinburgh this weekend, 30/31 October, at the Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools’ Performing Arts Centre in Edinburgh .
