5 Alex 103s (or clones thereof) in action at first night of the Proms last night. Must be quite a while since any British orchestra has fielded a whole section of 103s, albeit with 3 deps.

Unfortunately I missed it... who were the 3 deps?

The three deps were 1st, 4th and the bumper. The only one I recognised was Stephen Stirling on 1st. The chap on 4th had long red hair and I'm afraid I can't remember what the (male)bumper looked like. Messrs Murray and Hougham were on 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The last time I saw/heard Nick Hougham he was on an Alex 1103, having played a (vintage) 103 for a while. Has he switched back?

Definitely on a 103 for this concert (I looked again at the concert on BBC i-Player, in case my eyes had been playing tricks). Maybe Mr Stirling imposed a three-line whip!

"Maybe Mr Stirling imposed a three-line whip!"

Hm. Maybe.

I know he plays an Alex single (Model 90?) - heard him do a Strauss 2 on it a few years ago, but am struggling to recall a comment he made to me at the time about Alexes. My (admittedly vague) memory suggests that, though he liked the single, he wasn't a 103 fan, so I'm surprised he was using one. Or maybe I got that wrong.

Now I'm confused!
I'm not sure if Observer is referring to Mr Stirling or Mr Hougham here... Mr S does indeed sometimes play an Alex 90 but the last couple of times that I've been fortunate enough to accompany him on piano in recitals, he has played a 103. I will be rehearsing with him on Thursday so I may well have a chat with him about this!

My previous comments regarding Alex 90 and 103 preferences were about Mr S.
