I wrote to them once a while ago and I got this response below.
I would be willing to wager that if we collected together the horns we know about and their serial number we could figure out a logarithm to their present serial numbering system. For before 1980 though? Hmmmmm.
If we all send in requests to Herr Pankratz, maybe they'll publish their present system/list.

thank you for your mail. I'm sorry. Unfortunately we don't have a list like that available. But if you have a serial number you can get in touch with us to check the age. In the beginning of the 1980's we started with serial numbers on our instruments. Before we did not!.
