Do any players in the UK play those Kruspes at present?
I read in one of the Horn magazines that in the USA they used to play the large nickel Doubles that were imported by Anton Horner, but then when supplies of Kruspes dried up, the Conn 8D was 'invented' by Horner and some other players.

Hm.... did I not read in the Hornplayer Magazine that one or two players used Kruspe
Doubles on the London Horn Sound CD? Bill Haskins and /or Bob Mackintosh maybe?
Interesting.........perhaps someone could confirm 8-)

I am sure you are right that Bob was playing a brass Kruspe double at that time. Bill Haskins would probably have beed playing a Conn 28D, the brass version of the 8D. This should be confirmed or corrected as Bob is working in Scotland (playing an Alex now) and Bill is working in Wales and they are no distance away in cyber miles.

Horns used in the London Horn Sound CD "Give it one" -

Of the 20 horns used 7 are Kruspe Wraps (or 35%). That being said, this is for a special group doing a special album. I know when I play with our Hornswoggle group, I may not always use the Horn I am using in my regular playing jobs.

Angela Barnes - Alex 103
Richard Bissill - Yamaha 668*
Nigel Black - Paxman 40
Jeffrey Bryant - Paxman 40/ Hoyer Tuben**
Anthony Chidell - Holton H188* Conn 8D copy (?)
Laurence Cavies - Alex 103
Pip Eastop - Engelbert Schmid
Anthony Halstead - Conn 8D* E series.
Timothy Jackson - Yamaha 668*
Nicholas Korth - Engelbert Schmid Bb/Eb-alto
Dave Lee - Engelbert Schmid Bb single
Jonathon Lipton - Conn 28D*/ Hoyer Tuben**
Frank Lloyd - Engelbert Schimd double
Cormac O hAodain - Alex 103
Martin Owen - Alex 107
Christohper Parkes - Yamaha 668*/Hoyer Tuben**
Jim Rattigan - Paxman 33
Kathryn Saunders - Paxman 25
Hugh Seenan - Paxman 45
Gwilym Simrock - Yamaha 668V *

[* indicates a Kruspe Wrap]
[** At this recording the Tuben used were single Hoyers in Bb, with the exception of single F's when the range was needed. All the Tuben were supplied by Dave Lee]

I don't understand the system of single versus plural with Wagner Tubas:
Quote:

The above sentence is grammatically correct, I think, although because I (and I assume the writer) is not German or Austrian, 'Tubas' would have been preferable.
BUT
how can the following make any sense? :
Quote:
Jeffrey Bryant - Paxman 40/ Hoyer Tuben*

unless Mr Bryant played more than one Tuba
:?:

My understanding - for what it's worth - is that in the USA, 'Tuben' is both single and plural.
One plays a Bb tuben and one hears a Quartet of tuben.

Being REALLY academic now, I suppose the capitalization of the word is necessary only when preceded by 'Wagner': hence 'Wagner Tuben'.
On the other hand, surely it is a B flat tuba (or tuben depending on which side of the Atlantic you live) rather than 'Tuba'?
;)

Whatever you want to call them, playing one is like trying to wrestle jelly.

Actually I thought about using the term 'tube'. I certainly want to keep the 'Wagner Tuba(s)' seperated from 'regular tuba(s)'. I was taught many years ago that one instrument was a 'tube' and more than one was 'tuben'. Regardless, they used single Wagner Tube(n) as opposed to double Wagner Tube(n).

But - - - more to the point, there were 7 Kruspe wrap Horns.
