Mike,
I do not know how many Kruspe wraps were used on the first London Horn Sound CD. I would imagine it is similar in proportion to the second. Since I had access to the information for the 2nd CD, I thought I would use the 2nd CD to show that there ARE UK Horn players using Kruspe wrap instruments.

Chris,
I hope my information from the 2nd CD is acceptable to answer your question that some Hornplayers did use Kruspe doubles.

And I suppose we have all very much left the original posting of the Wendler model for sale.

Thanks for all the research John, I was referring to the first London Horn Sound CD
where Bob Mackintosh used a "real" Kruspe double.
This was confirmed above by Tony Chidell who was on the sessions.

Chris.

Do any players in the UK play those Kruspes at present?
I read in one of the Horn magazines that in the USA they used to play the large nickel Doubles that were imported by Anton Horner, but then when supplies of Kruspes dried up, the Conn 8D was 'invented' by Horner and some other players.

John's Horn Sound information is interesting but maybe not germane to the question. The Kruspe wrap instruments mentioned aren't actually Kruspes. And, more to the poin,t I believe the wrap is completely different from that of the Wendler compensating model.
There was an article in a recent issue of the BHS magazine by John Brownlee which gave an account of the new Kruspes that are being manufactured.

Why so few women on London Horn Sound? Does that list reflect the UK horn scene gender-wise?

I reckon if you take a very approximate average, one woman per section would be
about the state of play.
As for the first London Horn Sound you would have to ask Hugh Seenan - generally
speaking more and more women are appearing in top class orchestras.

Did you notice that the Vienna Phil have appointed a Bulgarian woman as one of their
leaders! I heard her doing Heldenleben a few months ago - stunning playing -
and by the attitude of the players after the show they love her - in a platonic
way of course ;)

I think Eric means London Horn Sound 2, on which there are 2 lady players.
LHS 1 has none at all ( Ithink, have unfortunately mislaid it)

I mean both recordings actually. A quick check of the section listings on Hornplayer.net shows some women, but not many. Just wondering why so few.

I am sure you are right that Bob was playing a brass Kruspe double at that time. Bill Haskins would probably have beed playing a Conn 28D, the brass version of the 8D. This should be confirmed or corrected as Bob is working in Scotland (playing an Alex now) and Bill is working in Wales and they are no distance away in cyber miles.

Bill Haskins was playing a yellow brass Kruspe as well on this occasion.

Isn't it glaringly, blindingly OBVIOUS?
If there were as many excellent female hornists as males, both the LHS CD's would have 50-50 !

Why, then, are there not more excellent female hornists? :) The hook is now baited AND cast into murky waters. ;)

The term "tosser" is not used in the US. I just looked it up on the Web.
Dumb Yankee that I am, I always figured it had something to do with the game of cricket.

Cambridgetosser, perhaps your forum name explains your comment about the fairer sex.
