I have just heard the very sad news of the death of Peter Civil.
Peter was a lovely man, a real gentleman in the truest sense of the word.
He was a very fine horn player with a beautiful tone, and I had the pleasure of working with him on many occasions with the ECO and LSO.

His son Rowland wrote to me:

"Peter passed away peacefully on Friday 14th of this month after a long fight with Alzheimer’s disease. As was his wish I was with him till the end.

His funeral will take place next Tuesday the 2nd of October at 14.30, at
St Giles Church
St Giles Terrace
Northampton
NN1 2BN

This was Peter’s home town and as a boy he was a chorister at St Giles.
We have asked for no flowers; however a donation to the Alzheimer’s association would be most welcome for the sake of others."
Any amount will be received with thanks and gratitude on http://www.justgiving.com/PeterWilliamCivil

Peter Civil was a very nice man and a very good horn player.

What made Peter Civil such a pleasure to be with was his genuine interest in you, the person he was with, the person he was talking to. He wanted to know how you were, what you were doing and he listened to your replies. He wasn't looking over your shoulder in case there was someone more interesting, someone more useful for a freelancer to spend time talking to.

He was a gentle person, softly spoken and he was, as Tony H has already said, a gentleman. He was loveable and it was very difficult not to love him. I did.

"He was a verray parfit gentil knight". Geoffrey Chaucer (The Knight's Portrait)
