Did anyone see the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on TV on New Years Day?

Who was playing 1st Horn? It wasn't Ronald Janezic, Lars Michael Stransky, Thomas Jöbstl, Wolfgang Vladar or Wolfgang Tomböck (now 4th horn after years as a phenomenal 1st horn).

We've seen his face on Vienna Horns video clips but I don't think he is a member of the section so why was he given the task of playing the long solo from Capriccio on TV to the whole world?

Who 'went sick'?

It was Josef Reif, one of the official 1st horns in the Vienna Phil.

Thanks for that. What does "one of the official 1st horns in the Vienna Phil" mean? :?:

Are they members? Do they have some kind of retainer salary? How are they paid for the TV relay? Thanks.
