Are they all on Twitta, or Arsebook more likely?

I heard a very good young 1st horn player in the Mahler 5 Prom with the hootenanny SO and some fairly wobbly horn playing in Mahler 6 with the Boston SO. Strange sort of wobbly tone effect. Intentional? Vibrato?

Who knows or can guess the identity of the young trialist playing 1st horn in Mahler 5 with the BBCSSO? There is a prize of up to £1,000! 8-)

I thought that the Mahler 5 'obliggato' with the BBCSSO was played by Richard Watkins!
Hmmm ...ummm... I'm not sure WHY as I have heard that the BBCSSO now has a wonderful new 1st horn as a successor to Mr D. Flack.

But you know everything so wouldn't it be a good idea for you to keep us all posted with all the latest news? I would welcome that.

What is the name of the new 1st horn in the BBCSSO? When was he/she appointed?

I saw on some web site the name of a player called 'Etienne Cutajar' referred to as 'Principal Horn BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra'.
You mentioned the wobbly horn tone of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, that is the tone of Mr J. Somerville who uses a discrete vibrato.

I had heard that he was 3rd horn and played 1st as part of the job. If he has been appointed is that an indication that the BBC are moving faster when filling vacancies? Most orchestras have been taking longer and longer to fill vacancies. Is that because it's harder to get rid of players now? That never used to be a problem except in the contract orchestras.

As for the wobbly tone I knew that American horn players used a fairly discreet touch of vibrato but that was plain wobbly. It was hard to tell what notes he was trying to play in some bits. Covers up a multitude of difficulties I suppose!
