Just saw this on Paxman's site and was surprised.

Alexander 103 F/Bb full double horn. Gold brass, etc, etc .
Has a couple of small dings and we think the screw ring has taken a knock as removing the flare and putting it on is a little awkward.

I may be old fashioned, but I'd have expected the UK's horn manufacturer to be embarassed to advertise a £4000 professional level horn with such a basic problem?

Anyone else think this is poor?

Yes, the little 'naughty' word 'p*ss' followed by a hyphen should be added before your stated word 'poor'!

At least it's an honest description. Incidentally, Paxman's website needs a complete redesign, in my opinion. The navigation is rubbish and it's amazing that there are no photos of the used instruments they have for sale. Prospective buyers shouldn't have to ask to be sent photos. Halstead Music, Luke Woodhead and Rimsky's Horns act like they're actually trying to sell horns!

In reply to the OP, it depends how bad "a little awkward" is in reality.

The repair procedure would be removing the screw-ring, reshaping the bell throat and fitting a new ring.
This would be quite a major operation and would potentially risk changing the horn forever! :?

If the bell still goes on and off and the horn plays well, the risks associated with the repair might not be worth taking.
However, given the problem, the price should probably be significantly reduced though...

It may just be providing the prospective buyer a truthful account of a horn being sold on consignment for someone who does not want to pay for having the repair made. Makes perfect sense to me. Honors sellers wishes, but informs potential buyers.
